Host Site Overview

Faribault Youth Investment and the Faribault Public Schools, in partnership with AmeriCorps Promise Fellows hosted by the Minnesota Alliance With Youth, will deliver evidence-based programming in efforts to empower identified students in grades 6-8 in their learning achievement. The Faribault Middle School is comprised of a diverse student body and devoted staff who are pursuing academic gains and social-emotional well-being for all.  Interventions will be guided by implementation of the Check & Connect student engagement model, one of the top-rated dropout prevention programs in the U.S. Department of Education’s “What Works Clearinghouse.”  Students will receive intense, targeted interventions aimed at increasing attendance and decreasing behavior referrals; all while making a positive connection to a caring adult. Promise Fellows will also work to connect youth to after school clubs designed to improve their 21st Century skills and work with families in an evening Community School setting to connect them with local supports and resources.

AmeriCorps Overview

Each year, over 10,000 youth in Minnesota drop out of school, and Minnesota’s academic achievement gap has grown to be one of the largest in the nation. To address this challenge, Minnesota Alliance With Youth (the Alliance) works to support and invest in schools and communities looking to improve graduation rates. In particular, the Alliance enlists and supports AmeriCorps Promise Fellows at host schools and organizations across the state to promote positive youth outcomes and close the achievement and opportunity gaps, including graduation for all. Promise Fellows serve at their host sites, while working with Alliance Trainers and staff for support and guidance in order to fulfill their service through AmeriCorps.
